Linux System Engineer

Job Introduction
FREQUENTIS Solutions & Services s. r. o., as a member of Austrian group FREQUENTIS AG (www.frequentis.com), is focused on software development, system engineering and delivery of safety-critical voice communication and information systems, for example for public safety control rooms (112), public transport or air traffic management.

From automation to tower systems, voice communication to traffic optimisation, information management to surveillance, networks to UTM and recording, we offer a broad range of solutions that cater to all ATM operational needs. 
 We are looking for a Linux System Engineer who will be responsible for the technical implementation of our services and the associated quality assurance measures during the service period in Air Traffic Management domain.
Key Tasks
  • Responding to technical enquiries in all service aspects (incident and problem reports, technical issues ...) within the contractually agreed response times. First point of contact for customers with regard to all technical service issues during system lifecycles 
  • Documentation and analysis of reported incidents and problems 
  • Coordinating and carrying out root cause analyses and remedies 
  • Assisting our customers with their technical queries about the operation, configuration and service of the serviced system 
  • Designing, planning and technically executing changes and extensions to existing systems (change requests) 
  • Integrating systems and system components into existing system environments
  • Performing system audits 
  • Collaborating with Product Management on designing and extending/improving products 
  • Supporting Product Management with continuous product improvement based on experience gained / feedback from customers 
  • Supporting transition of delivery project to support phase as well as building up required know how to support handed over solutions 
  • Drafting/updating technical documentation on systems and their interfaces
  • Site acceptance with customers 
  • Coordinating with product development teams and/or development teams on error analysis and troubleshooting
Key Qualifications
Know-how & experience

  • Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers (particularly RHEL), including updates, upgrades & troubleshooting issues
  • Bash scripting
  • Solid experience with virtualization platforms (VMware preferred)
  • Experience with SBC & PABX
  • Experience with various storage technologies
  • Good Understanding of basic networking
  • Understanding of clustering concepts
  • Able to generate documentation: Step-by-Step instructions for other engineers as well as Specifications and Requirements
  • Able to quickly adapt to frequent software releases

Skills considered as an advantage, but not disqualifying:
  • Install, configure, and maintain Windows server, including updates, upgrades & troubleshooting issues
  • Experience with cloud platforms, monitoring software, backup solutions
  • Experience with Ansible

  • Analytical skills to localize errors and sources of errors in distributed systems
  • Professional communication and client relationship skills, even during critical situations and under time pressure
  • Precise and thorough documentation abilities

  • You are open to travel on business trips to:
    • our headquarters in Vienna (at the beginning 3x/week, with the option to use a company car)
    • the customer site in Spain (occasionally)
