Job Introduction
Bratislava-based FREQUENTIS Solutions & Services (FSS) belongs to the Austrian FREQUENTIS Group (www.frequentis.com), specialized in mission-critical communication and IT solutions for business segments such as Air traffic management (ATM), Public Safety & Transport (police, fire and rescue services, emergency medical services, vessel traffic and railways) and Defense. We provide communication and information systems for control centers with safety-critical tasks. 

We are building a new technical team responsible for developing and implementing a new generation of safety-critical voice communication system called Frequentis X10. The solution will be delivered to the prominent U.S. customer — the Federal Aviation Administration. If you want to bring your experience in system engineering to the team working on an innovative ATM audio and communication system, then the X10 team is the right place for you! Frequentis X10 is the optimal solution for all kinds of Air Traffic Control (ATC) operations, from low-traffic regional towers to high-end area control centres, including the new generation of ATC operations, such as regular and multi-remote towers, virtual centres and traffic management for uncrewed aircraft. The system permanently runs a duplicated parallel audio stream for every air/ground connection to guarantee uninterrupted audio. 

We are looking for System Engineer who will be responsible for the technical implementation of our services and the associated quality assurance measures during the service period in Air Traffic Management domain. The System Engineer that will join the project will have a major contribution to the delivery of the safety critical solution used by air traffic controllers.
Key Tasks
  • Responding to technical enquiries in all service aspects (incident and problem reports, technical issues ...) within the contractually agreed response times. First point of contact for customers with regard to all technical service issues during system lifecycles
  • Documentation and analysis of reported incidents and problems
  • Coordinating and carrying out root cause analyses and remedies
  • Assisting our customers with their technical queries about the operation, configuration and service of the serviced system
  • Designing, planning and technically executing changes and extensions to existing systems (change requests)
  • Integrating systems and system components into existing system environments
  • Performing system audits
  • Collaborating with Product Management on designing and extending/improving products
  • Supporting Product Management with continuous product improvement based on experience gained / feedback from customers
  • Supporting transition of delivery project to support phase as well as building up required know how to support handed over solutions
  • Drafting/updating technical documentation on systems and their interfaces
  • Site acceptance with customers
  • Coordinating with product development teams and/or development teams on error analysis and troubleshooting
Key Qualifications
Know-how & experience:

  • Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers (particularly RHEL), including updates, upgrades & troubleshooting issues
  • Bash scripting
  • Solid experience with virtualization platforms (VMware preferred)
  • Experience with SBC & PABX
  • Experience with various storage technologies
  • Good Understanding of basic networking
  • Understanding of clustering concepts
  • Able to generate documentation: Step-by-Step instructions for other engineers as well as Specifications and Requirements
  • Able to quickly adapt to frequent software releases

Special skills & abilities:

  • Analytical skills to localize errors and sources of errors in distributed systems
  • Professional communication and client relationship skills, even during critical situations and under time pressure
  • precise and thorough documentation abilities
  • travelling - as the team is international, willingness to travel to our headquarters in Vienna (business trip by company car, within the training period at least 1x per week)
    • Possible travel to US & RO couple of times per year
Skills considered as an advantage, but not disqualifying:
  • Install, configure, and maintain Windows server, including updates, upgrades & troubleshooting issues
  • Experience with cloud platforms, monitoring software, backup solutions
  • Experience with Ansible
