Job Introduction
The Frequentis Group is an international supplier of communication and information systems for control centres with safety-critical tasks. These ‘Control Centre Solutions’ are developed and distributed by Frequentis in the business segments Air Traffic Management (civil and military air traffic control, aeronautical information management, air defence) and Public Safety & Transport (police, fire and rescue services, emergency medical services, vessel traffic and railways). With headquarters in Vienna, the company employs more than 2200 people worldwide, with subsidiaries, regional offices and representatives in over 50 countries. 

In Cluj we started in 2009 and our local team currently has 140+ colleagues and is growing.

The main product/platform developed by the team is based on a microservices architecture and manages aeronautical information like weather reports, flight plans, drone positioning, airspaces. The end-users of the product are designated personnel from the control tower/centers. 

System Wide Information Management (SWIM) is an advanced technology framework designed to facilitate greater sharing of Air Traffic Management (ATM) system information, such as airport operational status, weather information, flight data, and status of special use airspace. SWIM is providing a flexible and secure information management architecture for sharing aeronautical information.

Key Tasks
  • Contribute to the design and architecture of the product
  • Collaborate with the stakeholders (Frequentis colleagues, customers) to identify the software requirements for products/applications and drive the development forward
  • Develop prototypes to explore stakeholder needs
  • Implement code according to the company’s processes and standards Interpret test results, document and solve defects
  • Support for the QA in designing the automated system tests
  • Maintain and enhance product documentation
  • Prepare and hold customer demos

Acts as a technical leader in the team:
  • Provides technical guidance, proposes solutions and offer advice
  • Provides input for the software architecture
  • Acts as a coach or mentor for other developers
  • Performs regular 1-on-1 meetings with team members
  • Advises the Department Manager
  • Establishes a positive and professional work environment within the team
Key Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of software development experience in Java
  • Good knowledge of object-oriented concepts, design patterns and SOLID principles
  • Passionate about clean and maintainable code
  • Experience with SOA and microservices Cloud containers experience (e.g. Rancher) is a plus
  • Frontend experience (VueJS, ReactJS, Flux architecture, web design) is a plus
  • Basic knowledge of Linux and/or Docker is a plus
  • Team player with initiative
  • Previous experience as a technical lead is an advantage
  • Good English skills (both written and spoken)
