We are seeking for a Head of R&D accountable for the Market Unit Air Traffic Management (ATM) Voice Solutions. The main responsibilities are leading the development organization, overseeing the creation and implementation of products, planning and aligning the development project implementation with the business objectives, developing software and engineering team excellence, and stakeholder management.  

Key Tasks
  • Leadership and Team Management: Lead, inspire, and manage a multidisciplinary, geographically diverse technology team of approximately 130 members within a matrix organization. Set clear team goals, evaluate performance, and promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Product Development: Oversee the lifecycle of product development from concept to deployment. Ensure products are designed to meet user needs, system functionality and performance requirements. 
  • Innovation: Stay ahead of industry trends and developments in technology and ATC voice communication systems. Drive the exploration and implementation of new technologies and methodologies to maintain the competitive edge. 
  • Financial Planning: Secure funding for R&D projects, including drafting and overseeing budget proposals. Create and maintain oversight over the R&D annual investments to ensure alignment with the business goals.  
  • Quality Assurance and Compliance: Ensure all technology practices adhere to regulatory standards and security protocols. Implement quality assurance processes to ensure product excellence and reliability. Monitor technology risk issues and implement appropriate risk management strategies. 
Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, IT, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field. Master’s degree or relevant certification is a plus.  
  • 10-15 years' experience in R&D and at least 5 years in a leadership role, preferably in the specific domain of the market unit. 
  • Strong leadership qualities to effectively lead and motivate teams.
  • Technical expertise in designing scalable and secure software architectures, preferably with knowledge in real-time systems, communication protocols and cloud technologies. 
  • Experience with agile development methodologies 
  • Understanding of financial management principles to ensure the financial health of R&D. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Ability to identify and solve complex problems swiftly. 
  • Excellent English language skills; German or additional language skills are a plus. 
  • Strong team player, having an intercultural mind set, paired with international travel willingness (~20%)

Salary
The remuneration for this position consists of: The collective agreement minimum salary of EUR 68.700 gross per year (based on a 38.5 hour week) PLUS an overpayment in line with the market depending on your professional qualifications and experience.
